WSP has been brought on to verify all aspects of the design – from geotechnical, tunnelling and civil structures, through to stations, buildings and the railway.
WSP’s Client Director for Transport WA, Phil Nicholls, explained the global effort required to verify the complex designs.
‘We have pulled together experts from across Australia and around the world to review the design. Our team includes acoustics specialists from Sweden and permanent way engineers from New Zealand.
‘Project Director, Stuart Oakey, also joins the team this month as Lead Verifier bringing with him 20 years of international engineering experience. For the last four years, he has been Design Director for the award-winning Waterview Connection project in New Zealand.
‘Mr Oakey will be an invaluable addition to our growing team of transport professionals in the West,’ concluded Mr Nicholls.
Forrestfield-Airport Link is a new train line that will connect Forrestfield to the city, opening up Perth’s eastern suburbs to the rail network for the first time — and giving Perth Airport users a travel option that is five minutes faster than by car.
It is expected that trains will be operational on the new line from 2020.
