Next week in Adelaide, Penny Campbell will show how to deliver a value-for-money solution for a rail viaduct using innovative construction staging methods.

Speaking at the AusRail conference, Ms Campbell’s presentation centres on the challenges of designing the Epping to Thornleigh Third Track off-ramp viaduct within a highly-constrained environment, between an operational rail line and a major arterial road.

WSP Principal Structural Engineer for Transport, and co-author of the paper, Jim Nelson commented:

‘Producing a smart design with an innovative staging method saved the project a significant amount of money.

‘The team took the project challenges as design opportunities.

‘The end result was an innovative and collaborative design, which reflected the constraints and embraced opportunities,’ said Mr Nelson.

Ms Campbell is a Transport Structural Engineer and was recently awarded a future leader merit award from the National Association of Woman in Construction.

The AusRail Conference will be held at the Adelaide Convention and Exhibition Centre from 22 – 23 November 2016. For more details see
