At WSP, we are proud of the culture we foster and our people are our greatest strength. Today we talk to Tim Weston, Marketing Graduate, based in our Sydney office.

Since joining WSP in 2016, Tim has become an integral member of the Enterprise Marketing team. He says, “I joined WSP through the Graduate Program and was attracted to the company because I could see there was a lot of potential both within the team and across the company.”

As part of his role, Tim is involved in WSP’s marketing communications across ANZ. He says, “When I first started, there were only a few of us in the team, so I had to hit the ground running! While this was challenging at times, I learnt a lot very quickly and got exposure to strategies, campaigns and projects early on. Today, I look after developing and disseminating some of our internal and external communications, which allows me to interact with people at all levels of our business. I also take care of our social media, something I’m really passionate about.”

Tim’s greatest achievement to date has been his involvement in #engineeeredHERway, the gender diversity campaign we launched in October 2016 to improve gender balance, showcasing the extraordinary women in our business and attracting senior females to WSP. He says, “Being involved in the campaign from the very beginning has been extremely rewarding. It’s allowed me to shape our communication strategy, and profile talented women in our company on a weekly basis across all our media channels. I’ve really enjoyed contributing to the thinking behind the campaign, the creation of the communications and the overall implementation as well as the refinement of some of the elements along the way.”

#engineeredHERway earned industry recognition recently as a finalist for the Best Recruitment Campaign at the Australian HR Awards 2017. “While we didn’t win, we were part of the winner’s circle which included stiff competition from large organisations such as Accenture, PwC Australia and Telstra,” explains Tim. “The awards ceremony itself was a great way for our team to socialise and share the spotlight.”

A team player at heart, Tim is motivated by the talent in the Enterprise Marketing team and the professional opportunities ahead. “We’ve got a great group of people and I really enjoy collaborating with them to create solutions to complex issues with unconventional thinking,” says Tim. “The camaraderie and social cohesion we have is second to none and the open leadership style of the company keeps me engaged.

“We’re all equal irrespective of seniority and the company’s leaders are very approachable. I always feel that my opinions matter and I get a real sense of achievement from my work because I have the support of my peers and leaders. Plus, I’m empowered to excel in my job.”

Looking to the future, Tim is keen to continue his professional journey with WSP, building on his skills and taking on more responsibility. “I’ve got a lot more learning to do and WSP is right behind me,” adds Tim. “That’s a good position to be in – to evolve my marketing knowledge and improve my professional abilities.”

These are examples of how Tim reflects our value of Locally Dedicated Talent.
