Catherine joined us in late 2011 in the capacity of Legal Counsel – Contracts supporting the ANZ operations. She came to WSP as a highly experienced construction and engineering lawyer, having worked in England and Australia for first tier law firms and a professional engineering company as in-house legal counsel. Catherine is also a former national director of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), an Australian not-for-profit focused on empowering women to reach their potential.
Following a period of business expansion and the evolution of the corporate legal team, Catherine’s role and responsibilities grew. This culminated in her promotion to Senior Legal Counsel in 2015.
Since then, Catherine has been increasingly involved in our response to complex regulatory change, procurement, risk management, compliance and probity related issues. She has also taken the lead in positioning the corporate legal team as a true business partner focused on securing better contractual outcomes. Collaborative by nature, Catherine has built solid working relationships with our clients’ legal functions and other engineering firms.
Grant Smallhorn, General Counsel for Asia Pacific, “Catherine is a valuable member of the legal team. She embodies the WSP Guiding Principles and this promotion is a credit to her professionalism, integrity and accountability. In this role, Catherine will help support the growth of the firm and allow us to continue being client-focused, agile and responsive whilst managing the legal, regulatory and operational risks inherent in complex projects and delivery environments.”
