Chris Urie has just returned from a year-long sabbatical in Hawaii, where he enjoyed days by the ocean, surfing and taking time to recharge with his family. Originally from Philadelphia and now based in Sydney, Chris is passionate about the environment. He believes that the best way to ensure a positive outcome for the environment is to bundle the requirements with a commercial benefit. This realisation has set his career on a path where these two elements can be united.
As part of this role, Chris will work with the national leaders of our Environment group on overall business development, strategic client relationship management, key project pursuits and commercial bid strategy.
Chris says, his focus will be on further increasing the collaboration between the Environment group and other business units in regards to major pursuits and business development strategy.
His long-term goal is to ensure WSP is recognised – by both clients and employees – as the preferred environmental consultant in Australia.
Chris understands the importance of strategy and working collaboratively to seize opportunities. His most recent role was as Group General Manager of the Environmental Earth Sciences International (EESI) group of companies where he was responsible for leading the business and its four trading entities with capabilities in contaminated land consulting, remediation contracting, hazardous materials and hygiene, and the recycling of hydrocarbon contaminated soils. In this capacity, he was involved in establishing the first contaminated soil recycling facility in Australia and significant contract wins with the Department of Defence and Tier 1 contracting companies.
Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology, minoring in Chemistry and Marine Science; as well as a Master of Science in Conservation Biology. His professional background comprises 13 years of client-facing business development and business-to-business sales experience across industries that include the environment, business consulting and advertising/media.
Jenny MacMahon, Director of Environment welcomes the addition to the team. “Chris brings a strong commercial mindset and fresh business development skills to the table which will support our key growth initiatives.”
