Many of our talented people hold senior positions within industry groups and technical societies. One such example is Diane Mather, Senior Principal Tunnel Engineer, who has been named Chair for the Queensland chapter of the Australian Tunnelling Society (ATS).
Diane joined WSP earlier this year and since then has been working on tunnelling projects such as the Cross-River Rail tender and Melbourne Metro Delivery. Involved with the Australian Tunnelling Society since 2005, Diane has held the position of Secretary of the Queensland Chapter since 2011.
She says, “I am delighted to be stepping into the chairperson role and look forward to working with the committee and Engineers Australia to continue the enthusiasm and hard work of the Queensland Chapter.
“I aim to maintain and strengthen the society’s proactive stance in the engineering community.
“Some of the initiatives I hope to get involved in are hosting regular technical sessions and one day workshops in Brisbane, along with providing high quality CPD events and networking opportunities for the tunnelling community. I am passionate about supporting the society’s engagement with key industry stakeholders including suppliers, academia, contractors, consultants, owners and operators.
The ATS is a Technical Society of Engineers Australia and a member of the International Tunnelling Association. The group aims to advance the knowledge of the Australian Tunnelling industry and promote research and development of subsurface projects.
