New Specialist Disciplines Leader Announced

Congratulations to Hay Sun Blunt on her promotion to Director of Specialist Disciplines, within our Property & Buildings business in Australia.

With a background in fire engineering, Hay Sun is a Chartered Engineer with more than 15 years of experience working on complex and mixed-use developments, including The Shard and 22 Bishopsgate in London, Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, and The Star Casino, in Sydney.

Hay Sun joined WSP in the UK in 2014 to lead the London Fire Engineering team. It is her client-centric and collaborative approach that has paved the way for her ongoing progression within the firm. In 2015, Hay Sun took on the role of Commercial Leader for the Specialist Disciplines group and relocated to Sydney, Australia.

Effective 1 April 2019, this new appointment to Director of Specialist Disciplines for Australia will see Hay Sun manage a diverse portfolio, including Acoustics, Fire Engineering, Sustainability, Façades, AV, ICT and Telecommunications, Security Consulting, Smart Buildings, Condition Assessment, Asset Management and Specialist Lighting.

Wayne Bretherton, Director of Property & Buildings says, “Hay Sun possesses considerable knowledge in these disciplines. She has a good understanding of the operational and financial aspects of running our business while her engaging leadership style is open, inclusive and promotes a high-performing culture.”

“It’s a pleasure to welcome Hay Sun into this role, and we look forward to her contribution as she shapes the future of our Specialist Disciplines group.”

“Her promotion is a great example of WSP’s empowering culture and our commitment to achieving greater gender balance, particularly in leadership positions.”

In discussing her new role, Ms Blunt says, “Looking ahead, I’m keen to boost collaboration and engagement amongst our people while developing our technical capabilities and improving operational efficiencies and revenue streams.”

“On a personal level, I’m proud to work for a firm that is committed to providing its people with opportunities for development, which I have been able to capitalise on in both the UK and Australia. This has enabled me to fulfil my goal of living abroad and allowed me to develop a keen interest in the great outdoors. On the weekends, I enjoy exploring Sydney and the surrounding countryside on my road bike, and when I can, I enjoy both winter and summer water sports, such as skiing and scuba diving.”

Hay Sun’s appointment coincides with the transfer of current Director, James Boyes, to Auckland, New Zealand (NZ), and his appointment to the position of Head of Building Services NZ.
