Celebrating Past Milestones and a Strengthened Future as One
Last night, members of the Melbourne property industry celebrated the past milestones of Irwinconsult, and a year on from uniting our two companies, formally welcoming Irwinconsult into the WSP family.
Irwinconsult was formed in 1953, when a group of designers, including structural engineer Bill Irwin, won a design competition for the most coveted project at the time, the design for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, Olympic Swimming Pool.
For over 60 years, Irwinconsult built a reputation for pioneering complex solutions, guided by a design philosophy that responded to the architectural intent of a project. Some of the iconic projects that Irwinconsult delivered include, Sidney Myer Music Bowl, the original Menzies Building at Monash University, Parliament House in Canberra and the Royal Children’s Hospital Stages 1 & 2.
Rob Clarke, Director of Property & Buildings says, “Since Irwinconsult joined WSP in December 2018, we have realised a strengthening of our local teams in Victoria and the Northern Territory, to increase our technical depth across our building services, structural and specialist discipline offering.
“Together, we now form one of Australia’s largest Property and Buildings teams, enabling us to leverage our strengthened experience and experience to better serve our clients and their projects.”
Phil Gardiner, formerly Irwinconsult’s Managing Director and now a Principal Director of WSP says, “We will continue to provide our clients with the same personalised services that we always have. Now as WSP, we can bring a greater diversity of thought and international expertise to our clients, in proposing innovative ideas and creating resilient developments.”
“We are excited to evolve our relationship with our clients to deliver projects that shape the present and enrich the future.”
As our combined teams unite to help shape the future together, this design philosophy will continue to guide WSP in delivering iconic and complex projects with clients across the built environment.
