WSP’s Program and Project Management (PPM) team manages the delivery of complex and large industry-leading engineering construction projects across Transport, Water, Resources and Defence sectors. The team’s approach is centred on our client’s strategic objectives including timely delivery, effective risk management, cost control, robust systems and protecting our client’s commercial interests.


With over 40 years’ experience in strategic delivery management and execution planning, Gary Finch, Major Projects Executive is a trusted advisor to clients including BHP and Liberty-GFG. He helps them to deliver infrastructure that will support our future generations.


“I’m focused and driven by performance management through a positive safety culture,” says Gary. “I’m also passionate about mentoring other Project Managers (PMs) to help them to grow by offering a different way to consider the challenges faced on their projects.


“I’ve been fortunate to have worked on diverse and complex maritime, mining, desalination and hydro-carbon projects. Project Management skills are transferable across industry sectors, but every client is different and every project has distinct drivers. The beauty of my role is challenging the status quo to help make the complex, more simple for our clients. Critical to achieving this and in delivering a great client experience is relationship management and listening to add greater value.”


Gary’s strength is his depth of multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge across all project phases from front-end execution and his practical understanding of constructability is coupled with a knack for consultation and facilitation to help his clients in achieving the best outcomes.


“Currently, I’m working with BHP to support 86kms of WiFi telecommunications in an underground mine. I enjoy the challenge and am continually learning about new technologies and improvements to deliver future ready solutions for our clients, including the positive economic flow on effects to the local communities.”


Gary is also a Certified Practicing Portfolio Executive (CPPE) with the Australian Institute Project Management (AIPM) and strong advocate of industry certification of WSP’s Project Managers.
