A veteran of the firm for 17 years – Matthew takes on this new role on top of his current responsibilities as WSP’s Lead for Education, Principal Director for our Property & Buildings team and being the Regional Director for WSP in SA/NT.
"My responsibilities in leading the Healthcare sector is to develop a sustained capacity and capability to deliver outstanding results for our clients. This involves developing and co-ordinating activities with WSP Health and Education regional networks to drive operational performance, grow market sector opportunities and leverage WSP’s extensive expertise and range of specialist and advisory services including Elton Consulting’s capabilities,” he says.
Matthew has a passion for design, with a great understanding of what makes a project successful. From his experience delivering major projects and city-shaping precincts, he brings a vast depth of knowledge to the sector.
According to Matthew, healthcare delivery models are being disrupted in many ways. Through technological advancement in treatment, tele-health (remote) consultation, physical constraints of existing assets, a desire for more adaptable and resilient buildings, infection control capabilities and responding to climate change.
He says the sector is ever-changing and with the many technical and operational considerations, it requires designers to continuously adapt and challenge themselves from the traditional responses.
“We have great capacity and capability in providing our services at the ‘front end’ of projects, where we provide business case services, master planning and concept design.
“Globally we are leaders in Healthcare and leading many of the conversations about resilience, pandemic response, technology and healthcare planning. Every project has its unique challenges and opportunities that we are approaching with fresh perspectives.”
In this new role, Matthew is most excited about being able to match our expertise to clients’ needs and improving engagement in the Health sector locally, nationally and with our global network.
“I enjoy connecting people. The Healthcare sector needs to be resilient and sustainable, and our communities rely upon us as designers to provide the best healthcare solutions we can.”
