82 Waymouth Street

When WSP in Adelaide sought a new home in this heritage-listed building, we transformed the interior into welcoming, modern office space that paid tribute to the building’s past.

Location

  • Adelaide, South Australia, Australia

Project Status

  • Completed 2011

Architect

  • GHD Woodhead and Schiavello

This well-known, landmark building in Adelaide was home to Trolleys TST Wines, which operated in Waymouth Street from 1875. On the outside, the features of the Tolley building, such as its heritage-listed façade and distinct mansard roof, are well preserved. But, on the inside the building’s natural aesthetic had been hidden for more than half a century.

As the location of our Adelaide operations, WSP sought to breathe new life into the building with an extraordinary fit-out.

Collaborative Approach

Working in collaboration with Woodhead and Schiavello to fit out the building, we set about transforming the interior and exposing the natural materials used for its original construction. Timber, forged steel, stone and exposed brickwork are now woven with modern features such as lighting, wireless technology, video conference facilities, and exposed services.

Key Achievements

The fit-out achieved welcoming, modern office space that integrated the building’s heritage.  It was also recognised with the 2012 Silver Medal at the Design Institute of Australia Awards.
