The Victorian Police needed to build a new headquarters, which brought the Crime and Intelligence departments of the Melbourne West Police, the North-West Police and Forensic Services into one building.
The City West Police Complex is on the corner of Spencer and La Trobe Streets in Melbourne. This A-Grade commercial tower has 12 levels, including a tower lobby, modern custodial facilities and two basement levels for 300 cars. The purpose-built workplace can house up to 1,500 staff, making it the largest police station in Victoria.
Partnering for Success
The building features an efficient side core design providing large open plan floor plates of approximately 2,100 m2. Our team designed a tenancy fitout that catered for the multiple, specialised needs of the police force. We implemented technical features that would enable smooth operations, including:
- Custody facilities to international standards
- Enhanced mechanical servicing of computer laboratories/workshops to minimise points of failure
- Legislative design requirements
- Capacity for 24/7 operation
- State-of-the-art IT and communications infrastructure
The sustainability features of the building included rainwater harvesting and high-performance glazing.
Community and Environmental Benefits
The building has achieved a 5 Star Green Star Office as Built certification and 4.5 Star NABERS Energy Rating. By taking a holistic approach to the tenancy design, our team provided a robust and flexible workplace solution.
Integrating and centralising these departments in a purpose-built building has helped the Victorian Police to improve its service to the Victorian community.
