The New South Wales (NSW) Government sought to create new, world-class convention, exhibition and entertainment facilities that could compete in the international events market. The critical element of the development was to make NSW number one again when it comes to hosting major international and national events.
The 12-hectare precinct had to provide Sydney with competitive facilities for a diverse range of convention, exhibition and entertainment events. The project would expand, enhance or replace the existing facilities across the Darling Harbour Precinct. The city needed new convention and civic spaces with larger capacity and an improved patron experience. Sustainability was a key objective.
Delivering Valuable Advice
Infrastructure NSW engaged WSP in the role of engineering services advisor. We assisted the organisation to prepare the project design guidelines and outcomes and then to monitor and evaluate the project through the tendering and construction phases.
Bringing the Project to Life
The NSW Government appointed the design and delivery partner after a competitive tender process. The final design integrated the existing urban landscape with new facility architecture, transforming Darling Harbour into a vibrant inner city hub and creating Australia’s premier convention, exhibition and entertainment precinct.
