To celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, learn about some of WSP’s initiatives and collaborations to support Indigenous communities

In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day, we want to share with you some of the initiatives and activities WSP has undertaken in support of Indigenous communities.

We are proud to support Indigenous students across Canada in their post-secondary education though our collaboration with Indspire and our sponsorship of their “Building Brighter Futures” program. Our $25,000 contribution to the program in 2017-2018 was matched by the federal government, and supported 11 Indigenous students as their pursued their academic goals – often in environmental studies. We have committed another $25,000 for the 2018-2019 academic year.

On March 23, 2018, WSP sponsored the 2018 Indspire Awards as a table sponsor and were joined by two local clients in Manitoba, Councilors Cooper Richard and Shirley Robinson from the Cross Lake Band of Indians. The Indspire Awards will be televised on CBC and APTN on June 24.

“WSP recognizes Canada’s Indigenous peoples’ unique heritage, cultural diversity and achievements to mark and celebrate National Indigenous People’s Day, and we are proud to collaborate and support Indigenous communities across Canada,” said Tim Nykoluk, Manager, Northern Infrastructure, Canada.

WSP is also committed to working for and with Indigenous communities across Canada through our project work. Read the most recent issue of Western Canada Water magazine (pdf) for an editorial by WSP’s Bill Brant, Project Manager, Infrastructure, Manitoba and an article by Tim Nykoluk detailing some of the challenges facing Indigenous communities and how WSP is working together with them to address these needs.
