WSP projects win four engineering awards

Three Infrastructure, one Building project have won 2018 Canadian Consulting Engineering (CCE/ACEC) Awards.

The CCE/ACEC Awards are organized jointly by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) and Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine. The awards are recognized as the industry's highest honours, offered only to the most remarkable engineering feats featured in projects by Canadian firms.

WSP Canada (WSP) was awarded four awards for projects in the 2018 CCE/ACEC annual competition. The awards were presented October 24, 2018 at a ceremony in Ottawa, ON.

The award-winning projects are:

Vancouver Convention Centre West, sustainability consulting - Award of Excellence

Vancouver Convention Centre engaged WSP to provide sustainability consulting in their pursuit of LEED for existing buildings. The West building registered under the most stringent version – LEED version 4, achieving Platinum level and making it Canada’s first LEED platinum existing building;

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) flywheel energy storage and airfield power system -Tree for Life Award and Award of Excellence

WSP evaluated a range of designs and technologies to determine the most suitable, updated energy-efficient LED lights and electrical back-up power system to help ensure runways are safe and operational during all weather conditions;

Town of Ladysmith wastewater treatment plant upgrade - Award of Excellence

The Town of Ladysmith, B.C., required a treatment strategy that would satisfy environmental regulations and serve its growing population. WSP designed all three phases of the upgrade. Phases one and two were constructed between 2009 and 2012. Phase three, upgraded secondary treatment facilities, including construction of a new multilevel building, was completed in 2017.
