We are pleased to announce that three of our professionals were recently honoured at the Transportation of Canada (TAC) and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Joint Conference and Exhibition.

WSP professionals received several awards at the 2019 TAC-ITS Joint Conference and Exhibition held in Halifax on September 22 to 25 including the TAC Individual Contribution Award, TAC Leadership Award, and Distinguished ITS Canada Member of the Year Award.

TAC Individual Contribution Award: Richard Tebinka

Richard Tebinka, Manager, Manitoba Transportation, won the TAC Individual Contribution Award. Richard has over 35 years of engineering consulting experience and specializes in transportation planning and engineering. He has volunteered on TAC committees since 1988, most recently on the Sustainable Transportation Standing Committee. Richard also volunteered on technical projects relating to transit planning and public engagement. Other professional organizations that he has contributed are the Canadian Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Canadian Parking Association.

TAC Leadership Award: Clark Gunter

Clark Gunter, Environmental Specialist, won the TAC Leadership Award. For 15 years, Clark has been a valuable contributor to TAC committees, technical projects and conferences. Since 2006, Clark has participated in the Environmental Advisory and Legislation Standing Committee, Environment Council, Joint Roundabouts Subcommittee, Climate Change Task Force, and Integrated Committee on Climate Change. He has been involved in several committee executives, including as chair, and has contributed to the organization and delivery of many TAC conference sessions, as well as a seminar and webinar. Clark remains a key force behind TAC’s work to strengthen the transportation sector’s consideration of environmental issues.

Distinguished ITS Canada Member of the Year Award: Mara Bullock

Mara Bullock, National Manager, ITS & Technology Planning Practice won the Distinguished ITS Canada Member of the Year for her contributions to the ITS industry and ITS Canada. Mara has over 25 years in the ITS industry and has stewarded an attitude of excellence in her work, involvement with industry associations (including ITS Canada, Advancing Women in Transportation (WTS)), and her relationship with industry partners.

During the past year, Mara advocated for the next generation of engineers by discussing the idea of an ongoing Young Professionals Committee for ITS Canada and promoting STEM fields to secondary school students.

Beyond her involvement with the board of ITS Canada, Mara served as a board member with WTS Toronto to advocate for women in the transportation industry, co-wrote a white paper on gender equality for TAC, and conducted research on intelligent infrastructure systems and technology.
