The Government has published a series of documents ahead of COP26 outlining in more detail how the UK will achieve its ambition of being a net zero economy by 2050. This included its Net Zero and Heat & Buildings strategies.
See below WSP reaction to these from Paul Tremble, Chief Strategy Officer, and Mark Hurley, Managing Director for Water, Energy & Industry.
Net Zero Strategy
Paul Tremble, Chief Strategy Officer at WSP, said: “The publication of the UK Government’s Net Zero Strategy is a very welcome development. Given our national ambition to reach net zero by 2050, it is important to have a clear and structured plan backing up the legislation which provides clarity for businesses and the public about what is required in the coming years to cut carbon emissions.
“The stakes are high and cutting emissions across the UK economy over the coming 15 years and beyond can only be achieved through a partnership between Government, industry and the public, backed up by and unambiguous implementation strategy, which is both bold and fully costed. There is a lot to digest in the document, but it is a positive step that a sector-by-sector breakdown with associated emissions reduction targets has been established.”
