Buckingham Palace is one of the most iconic buildings in the world. Instantly recognisable as the home of The Queen and the British Royal Family, it is also a working building, hosting almost 100,000 guests and attracting over 15 million tourists every year.
Protecting The Palace for future generations
WSP is working on a phased programme of works to overhaul the building's infrastructure to prevent long-term damage, and ensure The Palace continues to deliver its many functions for the next 50 years.
We are providing building services engineering to design replacement services – including electrical wiring, water pipes and a heating system dating back to the 1950s. We are also providing integrated multi-disciplinary designs to deliver operational improvements, including better facilities for visitors and staff. This ten-year, £369 million programme will bring a series of long-term financial and environmental benefits and improve access for millions of visitors to the home of The Sovereign each year. The Palace will remain occupied and fully operational for the duration of the project.
