The Galaxy SOHO mixed-use commercial complex on Beijing’s East 2nd Ring Road officially opened in October 2012. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid for developer SOHO China Ltd., the complex features four smooth, rounded towers joined by flowing, elongated, curved bridges. Each tower consists of layered stacks of white aluminum planes alternating with wrap-around glass. Construction began in 2009 and completed in 2012.
The project covers a total of 3,595,000 square feet (334,000-square meters), nearly half of which is devoted to office space and communal workspaces. Another 925,000 square feet (86,000 square meters) is reserved for commercial retail and entertainment facilities, including restaurants on the topmost floors.
