Celebration with members of WSP in Chengdu team.

Served by two international airports, an extensive freight and high speed passenger rail network and modern highways, Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, is not only the logistics hub for southwest China, but is also a booming center for commerce and tourism. As part of the 206,000 Chengdu–Chongqing Economic Zone (CCEZ), the fourth largest economic zone in China, Chengdu is one of the emerging first tier cities that will continue to develop and grow in the coming decades.

“With China’s economic development expanding westward as a result of the China Go-West policy and the Belt and Road initiatives, cities such as Chongqing, Kunming and above all, Chengdu are experiencing accelerated economic growth and transformation,” says Ivy Kong, Managing Director for Asia. “The scale of Chengdu’s development plans alone are astounding, for example, the financial and commercial district of Tianfu New Area is over 1,578; that is twice the size of Singapore or the same size as Greater London,” adds Ivy. “Chengdu and the CCEZ will remain important elements of WSP’s China growth initiative.”
