Located in the province of Hunan, Wangcheng covers approximately 11.5 percent of Changsha with an area of 523 square miles (1,355 square kilometers). Wangcheng is on the low reaches of the Xiang River, surrounded by mountainous and river views so not surprising, it is fast becoming a popular tourist destination. The planned Wangcheng Waterfront New City, spans 14 square miles (36 square kilometers) and is designed to complement the contours of the western bank of the Xiang River.

WSP’s responsibilities included conceptual master planning, transport planning, urban design, and ecology planning for the new city. A key component of the concept is incorporation of the natural and urban characteristics of the environment into a fully functional city that is served by a modern transport system and has extended waterfront areas for prime real estate development.
