The Arnprior A&B Solar Farm Project is a 19 MW AC solar farm comprising 312,000 PV thin film solar panels mounted on 13,000 racks on a 200 acre (81 ha) field.

In response to the Government of Ontario’s Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program, which encouraged moving away from coal generation to renewable energy production, EDF EN Canada, a market leader in renewable energy development, and enXco, its North American affiliate, planned to develop, build, own and operate the solar farm on two separate but adjacent sites in Arnprior, just west of Ottawa, Canada’s capital city, with a total production of 23.4 MW (DC), or slightly less than 20 MW (AC).

Our client, Sullivan & Sons, turned to WSP to provide engineering services for the electrical (including substations and collector) and structural systems. The project comprises two solar PV fixed racks, each of 9 MW AC capacity, connecting to the Hydro One distribution grid. 

Construction on the Arnprior A&B Solar Farm Project began in May 2009, targeting December as the completion date.

When the Arnprior Solar Farm became operational in December 2009, it was the third largest solar PV farm in North America. The Arnprior Solar Farm meets the peak energy demands of approximately 7,000 homes.
