As part of our larger role as the joint venture general engineering consultant for the Taipei Metro, we prepared a conceptual design of the Jiantan Station, often called the Dragon Boat Station.

Visually dramatic, the station is composed of two soaring concrete pylons at either end of the station from which a 2,700-ton prestressed concrete roof is suspended. Almost immediately after its completion, the Jiantan Station became a Taipei landmark. In one strong architectural statement the station ushered in a new era of mass transit and high technology in Taiwan while paying homage to a nation’s culture and history.
