Yantian International Container Terminals (YICT), a joint venture established by Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) and Shenzhen Yantian Port Group (YPG), is responsible for operating and managing Phases I, II and III, of the expansion project and the West Port of Yantian Port.
Yantian is a preferred port of call for mega-vessels in South China. More than 30 major shipping lines operate 100 weekly services at Yantian.
Occupying 3.73 square kilometres (1.4 square miles), Yantian Port is equipped with advanced facilities and served by inland transport links. As one of the first deep-water ports in Southern China and with quayside water depths of 45 to 53 feet (14 to 16 meters), it can service the world’s largest container vessels.
There are 16 container berths, 5 miles (8 kilometers) of berths, 74 container quay cranes, and 200 yard cranes. On the completion of Phase III, the annual handling capacity of Yantian Port is in the region of 5 million TEU (twenty-foot/6-meter) equivalent unit.
WSP provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and drainage consulting services which included design, construction stage supervision, and statutory approval coordination. Responsibilities also include design of the intelligent container terminal facilities.
