ACLCA has an exciting program in store for its first foray onto a virtual platform, including four sessions presented or co-presented by WSP:
ACLCA 2020 Virtual Conference agenda
Applications of LCA in Science Based Targets and CDP – An Update
September 22, 2:30 pm to 4 pm EDT
This presentation will cover the basics of how LCA can be used to inform SBTs and CDP disclosures as well as provide a valuable update on how the frameworks have changed in the past year and new ways in which LCA can fit into these frameworks. It is part of the conference LCA Institute geared toward those interested in the business applications of LCA.
Presenters: Jordan Chamberlain, Julie Sinistore, PhD
Water Embedded in Electricity Generation: Guidance, Methodology and Factors
September 22, 4:30 pm to 6 pm EDT
This presentation will explain a recently published guidance that provides recommendations for transparently disclosing information about water embedded in electricity, based on existing reporting and disclosing standards such as the GHGP, CDP and GRI. It will also present concise case studies to illustrate the benefits of measuring water embedded in electricity.
Presenters: Julie Sinistore, PhD, Eric Christensen, Josh Nothwang, Tianyi Luo (WRI)
Driving Sustainability with Emerging Technologies
September 23, 2:30 pm to 4 pm EDT
This presentation will provide a brief introduction to blockchain, internet of things (IoT), big data and artificial intelligence (AI) and then illustrate novel applications of these technologies to further sustainability goals including through LCA and circular economy with case studies.
Presenters: Mobi Shemfe, PhD, WSP UK and Julie Sinistore, PhD, WSP USA
Co-authors: Robbie Epsom, WSP UK and George Bailey, WSP UK
Special Session: Tackling the Problems of Plastics in LCA – An Update
September 23rd 11am to 12:30pm
This special session will shed light on topics related to plastics including the burgeoning ocean plastics industry and other alternative plastics-products space and the sustainability factors related to it by presenting real world examples from industry. Additionally, there will be discussions about how to use LCA to inform and guide development, selection and siting of circular economy projects (specifically chemical recycling of plastics) It will also cover the progress towards the development of new metrics to include ocean plastic pollution and degradability in LCA. The session will include some brief presentations and conclude with a moderated, interactive panel discussion on strategic issues for tackling and harnessing ocean plastics, other plastics, public awareness factors, and assessment approaches and metrics.
Presenters: Julie Sinistore, PhD, Rich Helling, ScD (Dow), Ruben Roc (HP), Randy Waymire (Eastman), Sangwon Suh, PhD (Bren School), Philip Strothmann, FSLCI, Tom Etheridge, PhD
