Lauren Isaac and Cliff Henke of WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff will give a presentation entitled “Implications on Driverless Vehicles on Public Transportation Agencies and Planning,” on Tuesday, September 13th from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Platinum Ballroom Salon C of the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE.
Ms. Isaac is the firm’s manager of sustainable transportation and the author of “Driving Towards Driverless: A Guide for Government Agencies,” a new guide for state, regional and local government officials in responding to the infrastructure and policy changes that the advent of driverless vehicles will require.
“Driverless vehicles have the potential to change all aspects of the public transportation industry – from workforce development to safety and security planning to corridor and network planning to service delivery,” said Ms. Isaac. “In short, these technologies have the potential to disrupt both public and private transportation as we know it--and, in fact, they have already begun to do so. Our presentation will present a few future scenarios that could occur with driverless vehicles and how the public transportation industry might be affected. We will then address potential implications to transit agencies’ service provision, including major capital investment planning, paratransit services, fleet maintenance and other support, labor requirements, funding and fare structures.”
WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff has been at the forefront of the development and testing of transportation infrastructure for driverless and connected vehicles, and is currently advising transportation agencies on the development of infrastructure to accommodate connected, automated and driverless vehicles. It served as infrastructure lead for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Connected Vehicle Safety Pilot program and was a partner in developing connected vehicle infrastructure technology for the Michigan Department of Transportation’s Connected Corridor Initiative.
The firm’s comprehensive capabilities with respect to connected and automated vehicles are presented at www.advancingtransport.com.
