In his new position, Mr. Smith, who will be based in the firm’s Nashville office, will serve as project manager on ITS/traffic projects and lead the expansion of the firm’s ITS/traffic practice in Tennessee. He will collaborate with colleagues throughout the Southeast to deliver ITS and traffic solutions to a broad range of public sector clients. The firm’s services include planning, design and assistance with construction management for ITS and traffic projects for urban and rural applications, in support of transit agencies and as components of larger design and implementation projects.
A transportation engineer with 20 years of ITS/traffic-related experience in the public and private sectors, Mr. Smith has led multi-jurisdictional teams on projects intended to improve roadway safety, efficiency and mobility through the innovative use of technology. His experience includes design, inspection, operation and maintenance of a wide variety of traffic infrastructure, including signal systems, freeway management systems, and traffic management center operations. He has served as a civil and transportation engineer in local government and state departments of transportation. He joins WSP from the Florida Department of Transportation, where he was a district transportation systems management and operations program manager and ITS engineer.
A licensed professional engineer in Florida, Mr. Smith received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Tulane University. His professional affiliations include the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Intelligent Transportation Society of America.
