Chris Thomas has been named a senior vice president and government market head for the property and buildings business at WSP USA.

Chris ThomasChris Thomas has been named a senior vice president and government market head for the property and buildings business at WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy.

In his new role, Mr. Thomas will be responsible for growing WSP’s property and buildings business across federal, state and local markets and liaising with government agencies. WSP currently provides a wide range of building engineering to several government clients, including the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, the General Services Administration, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and several others for hospitals, laboratories, offices, courthouses and military facilities.

“Chris will be a vital asset to our property and buildings group as we expand our work within the government market, building on recent successes,” said Rick Rome, executive vice president at WSP and the firm’s managing director of property and buildings systems.

Previously, Mr. Thomas was senior vice president with CH2M, working as their managing director of state and local government relations as well as client account executive for their Seattle market.

His expertise includes business development, government relations, public affairs, community relations, and corporate strategy. He has led project, public policy, and political activities throughout the US in the federal, state, and local government arena and often represents the industry before legislative committees, Congress, and The White House. He has served in various civic and community capacities including mayoral and gubernatorial transition teams and on the board of directors for the Public Affairs Council, Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, and Seattle Metropolitan Chamber. He has served on the corporate leadership councils of the US Conference of Mayors and National League of Cities and is a regular lecturer for the Public Affairs Council’s executive education programs.

Mr. Thomas holds a masters of business administration from the George Washington University in Washington, DC, as well as a masters and bachelors of civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
