NEW YORK, NY — Roger Haight has been named leader of the long-span bridge group at WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy.
A senior engineer, Haight has more than 35 years of experience in the design and construction of various major bridge structures, including specialized expertise in long-span bridge design, rehabilitation, and assessment projects.
He is WSP’s project manager for the Bayonne Bridge Navigational Clearance Project, which won the 2018 Grand Conceptor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). The project opened the East Coast’s largest seaport to Panamax shipping vessels while preserving the historic steel arch bridge.
“Roger is an important part of the Bayonne Bridge project from performing the initial constructability reviews to increase navigational clearance through project management for construction support services of this highly complex reconstruction project,” says Barton Newton, senior vice president and director of complex bridges at WSP. “Roger’s deep experience in all aspects of bridge design and reconstruction has been and will continue to be a tremendous asset to WSP.”
Haight was project and deputy manager for on-call engineering services for over 10 years of inspection, design, and rehabilitation of the Newport Pell Bridge on behalf of the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority. He authored the Long Span Bridge Structural Health Monitoring section for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Long Span Bridge Design Guidelines.
Haight has a master of science in structural engineering from Princeton University and a bachelor of science in chemical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia.
For the past seven years, Haight has served as a pro-bono invited guest lecturer in the engineering department at City University of New York. He also is an aficionado of modern sculpture and for 21 years has volunteered as veteran docent at New Jersey’s acclaimed outdoor sculpture park and arboretum, Grounds for Sculpture.
