NEW YORK, NY — Zach Youngerman has been named planning & resilience lead for water and environment at WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy.
In his new position, Youngerman will focus on expanding WSP’s resiliency practice across the U.S. Youngerman is a New York native with extensive private and public experience in city planning, including recovery planning in post-Katrina New Orleans, municipal storm water program development in the Toronto area, and implementation of the New York City’s $1.5 billion green infrastructure program. Through these experiences, Youngerman has developed an in-depth understanding of the complex technical, political and environmental aspects of urban systems.
“WSP has broad and significant expertise and personnel in the resilience areas,” said Allan Estivalet, water & environment area manager for WSP USA. “Zach is an outstanding addition to WSP. He brings a wealth of resiliency expertise and knowledge and experience developing resiliency strategies and we are excited to bring that to our clients. Youngerman received his Master in City Planning from MIT and his B.A. of Urban Studies from Brown University. He is also an Envision Sustainability Professional. He contributes regularly to conferences, has developed and conducted training workshops, and has had written work featured in publications like The Boston Globe and CityLab. Additionally, he served on the New York City Mayor’s Office of Recovery and Resiliency Urban Heat Island working group and is trained in NYC’s post-emergency canvassing operations.
As the need for resiliency-based planning, design and program management continues to grow, WSP is working to provide clients with the background and expertise to make strategic and thoughtful investment decisions for their long-term resiliency plans. Some recent projects include the Resilient Bridgeport Project and the Tidal Inundation Resiliency Roadway Design Pilot Program in Monroe County, Florida.
