CHICAGO — Building industry veteran Jean Gibbons was recently named vice president, building systems at WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy.
Gibbons will manage WSP’s Chicago office mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protections department including staff assignments, monitoring deadlines, arranging for and performing technical training, performing mechanical design and coordination reviews, oversee and develop department procedures and standards.
“Jean is a multi-faceted design leader with over 35 years of experience in the field of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering,” said Lindsay Zanders, senior vice president and managing director of WSP USA’s property and buildings practice. “Her comprehensive technical and management expertise include design and commissioning, science-technology laboratories, aviation and heathcare facilities. Her proven ability to communicate project goals, schedules and budgets is paramount to her success leading cross-functional groups for a wide variety of building types and delivery.”
During her career, Gibbons has worked on myriad building types with a focus on larger complex buildings and system, including hospitals, laboratories and airport terminals. Gibbons, a LEED registered professional with a strong interest in sustainable design and energy conservation in buildings, completed her graduate and undergraduate studies in mechanical engineering at the University of Illinois. She has been a member of many engineering associations, including the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE), the Hospital Engineering Society of Northern Illinois (HESNI). Gibbons currently serves on the University of Illinois Mechanical Engineering Alumni Board.
