NEW YORK — WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy, is pleased to announce that Michael Mondshine will assume leadership of the firm’s Sustainability, Energy and Climate Change (SECC) national practice, part of WSP’s Water & Environment business line, as vice president, director of sustainability, energy and climate change services January 1, 2019.
Mondshine is an internationally recognized expert in the fields of energy, sustainability, and climate change with more than 25 years of experience in greenhouse gas accounting, policy development, mitigation and resilience. In his new role, he will lead a national team distributed across seven U.S. offices, crafting and implementing strategies to build upon and expand WSP’s presence in key markets, including information technology, financial institutions and apparel while expanding service to the company’s existing large-scale infrastructure clients.
Mondshine currently leads WSP’s commercial climate preparedness practice and is relied upon for strategic advisory services by Fortune 100 corporations, utilities, municipal, state and national governments.
He succeeds Evan Evans, senior vice president and director of sustainability, energy and climate change services for the past 20 years, who has made the personal choice to go to a reduced work schedule at the beginning of 2019. Evans will continue to help sell all SECC services and deliver sustainable energy projects.
“Under Evan’s leadership, the SECC group has established a trajectory for continued growth and success,” said Steven Paquette, president of the U.S. water and environment business at WSP. “I have total confidence in Michael and the SECC leadership team to build upon Evan’s legacy and to continue to add value to our water and environment business.”
“Our sustainability, energy and climate change business has built a culture of success and client service that makes us a preferred provider in a marketplace that is undergoing a dramatic transition and associated expansion,” Mondshine said. “Where sustainability had for a long time been a nice to have driven by organization’s environment, social and governance commitments, it is increasingly driven by regulation and statute in the public sector and is becoming integral to business operations, profitability and risk management in the private sector.”
Mondshine noted growth opportunities for SECC in its support of WSP’s other businesses, including its infrastructure-focused sectors, and the chance to broaden the scope of services delivered to WSP’s commercial clients.
Mondshine has been recognized by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for his contributions to their receipt of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize and served as Board Chair of the Association of Climate Change Officers (ACCO) from January 2014 through July 2016. He holds a master of public policy degree from Georgetown University and a bachelor of arts degree in government and politics from the University of Maryland.
Mondshine serves as the U.S. lead for WSP’s Future ReadyTM program, which aims to see the future more clearly, and to work with clients to design for this future as well as for today’s needs. He volunteers to several causes, including the Human Rights Campaign and the Free Theater, an effort to provide the opportunity for training and participation in professional level productions for young people from all walks of life, regardless of economic resources.
WSP’s multidisciplinary Sustainability, Energy and Climate Change team helps clients navigate a complex sustainability and energy landscape and unlock opportunities to reduce cost, create brand value and mitigate risk across the value chain, ultimately building more resilient organizations that can thrive in a changing global market. WSP collaborates with clients to develop a systematic approach to identify and implement viable solutions. The result is ongoing cost savings, product and service innovations, enhanced recruiting and retention, and improved relationships with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
