DENVER — Michael Unger has been named Texas/Mountain regional business development director for WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy. The appointment comes as WSP continues to strengthen its presence in the region.
Reporting to the regional business manager, Unger is responsible for business development and client engagement in the firm’s transportation and infrastructure practice across the eight state Texas/Mountain region, comprising Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. His focus will be on ensuring clients have access to the full suite of services the firm provides, from planning and advisory services, to design engineering and program/construction management.
“As our clients in the Texas/Mountain region continue to see tremendous growth and change, we are excited to promote people like Mike Unger, who understand the region, and how we can best help our clients achieve their objectives,” said Joseph G. Pulicare, president of U.S. transportation and infrastructure for WSP USA.
As manager of the firm’s Colorado and Wyoming offices for the past three years, Unger oversaw the transportation and infrastructure group’s projects and business operations in those states. He also contributed to projects in the region, including design and planning work on the Colorado Department of Transportation’s $1.2 billion Central 70 Project, the Denver Regional Transit District’s (RTD) Southeast Rail Extension, Denver International Airport Program Management and Support Services contract, and the Las Vegas Road Corridor Study in Colorado Springs.
Unger has over 25 years of engineering experience serving public and private clients throughout the region and overseas. Prior to joining WSP, he managed the Colorado operations of a national consulting engineering firm. He previously served as western regional manager for an international engineering firm, responsible for the infrastructure business unit in the western U.S. and project manager for a significant infrastructure project in Abu Dhabi.
A licensed professional engineer in Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona and Nevada, Unger received a B.S. in architectural engineering from the University of Colorado. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute and is active in the American Council of Engineering Companies.
