His experience spans the full project life cycle including planning and design, construction, and operation, and his career commitment to sustainable design was recognized in 2011 with elevation the AIA College of Fellows and inclusion in the first ever class of LEED Fellows.
Alan has provided high performance building consulting and LEED certification management for numerous commercial, multi-family residential and institutional projects in Portland and beyond. He also led content development for a sustainable facilities playbook to guide the design, construction, operation and maintenance of global facilities for Nike - which established standard practices, set performance targets and create reporting protocols.
Alan served on the EcoDistricts Protocol Advisory Committee, a standard focused on community scale solutions to climate change, resilience and equity. He currently supports the expanded adoption of renewable energy as past-president of the Board of Solar Oregon and he continues to advocate for sustainable design in the architectural community with service on the Portland Center for Architecture Board. Currently, Alan is contributing to the advancement of sustainability and resilience with service to the LEED Resilience Working Group. An experience trainer, Alan also served for eight years as USGBC LEED Faculty.
