As the elevated guideway structure design consultant for the SkyTrain, WSP's transit experts have the insight to design major guideway systems that are technically proficient, aesthetically pleasing, and cost-effective.

The guideway concept was based on a structural element, requiring direct fixation of the steel running rails, the power rail, and the linear induction motor reaction rail. The concept was chosen with the following principal attributes for aesthetic and functionality reasons.

The guideway structures were constructed in two- to six-span segments to minimize the number of joints in the superstructure and increase the beam stiffness, thus allowing greater control over deflections and ride quality.

The precast guideway beam fabrication concept developed by WSP accommodated direct fixation of continuous welded rails without the need for a second field pour, resulting in the benefits of reduced site labor and improved schedule for track installation.
