WSP was commissioned by the buildings developers, Abland to create a new building design. The project commenced in January 2012 where the demolition of the then existing building began, signalling the start of construction. The project is set to be completed by July 2013.
22 on Bree will be a 19 storey building comprising basement parking, ground floor retail and reception, 8 storeys of parking and 10 storeys of office space – the tower will host office space for the prominent law firm, Bowman and Gilfillan. This project is earmarked to add more aesthetics appeal to the inner city and also contribute towards the densification and modernisation to the CBD. WSP is providing civil, structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and drainage, lift and fire engineering services to the building in order to ensure a quality and energy efficient building.
Asked on what the biggest challenge has been thus far concerning the project, Principle Associate at WSP Evan Pedlar said: “Time poses the biggest challenge as the handover date to be met is critical. In order to achieve this, careful planning, monitoring as well as design processes will be implemented by all team members. The communication channels are well defined so that all involved stakeholders can send and receive information timeously and resolve any problems encountered efficiently and effectively”.
Energy efficient equipment is being designed into all the engineering services wherever possible.
The project perfectly reflects WSP’s beliefs in providing innovative sustainable design, engineering and management solutions, to contribute to a sustainable future.
