WSP in Africa was awarded the Special Award for Project Management and Construction on the Kwale Minerals Sands Export Facility project in the 2014 South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) Awards announced on the 16th of October.
This accolade follows the Kwale Minerals project having been a qualifying finalist at the annual Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA) Aon Engineering Excellence Awards that were held in August this year.
SAICE prides itself on advancing knowledge share, improved practices within and, more wide reaching recognition of the civil engineering profession. This year SAICE received 38 project entries from various companies across the country – which was also an improvement on the record 35 project entries that SAICE received in 2013.
According to Mathieu du Plooy, CEO of WSP Africa, “As the SAICE awards cater to a very niche segment of the construction sector, it makes the competition that much tougher. We are therefore extremely proud of this accolade, as it is a great testament to what can be achieved with having the right multi-disciplinary expertise in a team of specialists involved in a project.”
