WSP, in association with Pula Consulting in Gaborone, was appointed for the design of bulk earthworks and lateral support and detailing of a 17-storey office block.

Botswana Development Corporation found it imperative to initiate Fairscape Precinct to revitalise Fairgrounds by offering prospective commercial and retail tenants with a world class mixed-use property. Fairgrounds have since transformed into a major office hub in Gaborone but lack a development that truly places it as an office location of international stature. The Fairscape Precinct development creates an environment which promotes economic opportunities.

The building façade is a diagrid frame where the triangles are the columns that support the external portions of the building. The diagrid is also very effective in terms of the stability of the building as it acts as an enormous vertical truss and takes up about 40% of the horizontal wind load.  Two features make this building's diagrid unique. Our team used concrete for the diagrid, instead of steel, and the façade triangles are all precast elements.

With a 17 storey high tower, the design and structure of the building is to accommodate pedestrian movements and accessibility to the amenities of the precinct with a piazza forming the central (focal point of the precinct) having an array of shops and open cafes.
