The Fields development is an entirely mixed-use precinct, comprising residential, retail, and commercial offerings, a hotel and a gym. The development is at the centre of the urban renewal process in the Hatfield precinct. This regeneration has vastly enhanced the value and status of the node, and has kick-started further development.

 

The project involved redeveloping the new Fields precinct in three phases, and refurbishing five adjacent buildings over an eight-year period.

 

Phase 1 consisted of 640 units across three residential blocks with a 4,000m² ground floor retail area and a two-level super basement. An existing eight-storey residential block was refurbished. Phase 2a involved a 184-key City Lodge, with an eight-level office block offering 5,700m² commercial space, over a four-level basement that integrated fully with Phase 1’s basement. Phase 2b saw the construction of 150 residential units.

 

Four additional refurbishments were carried out, including two commercial office buildings, the Protea Hotel and the Virgin Active Gym.
