Helping societies thrive sustainably

We know our solutions will shape the communities of tomorrow. In nurturing sustainable societies, we strive to contribute positively to the places where we work.

At WSP, we value our people and our reputation – as professional engineers and scientists, responsible corporate citizens and a top employer in our sector. We believe that WSP is a place where you can thrive, and in turn plan, design and engineer communities to thrive, too.

Our Approach

WSP in Africa is fully committed to responsible corporate citizenship through Socio-Economic Development (SED), aligned to B-BBEE requirements and our Guiding Principles.

Our SED activities focus on development areas that align to our position as a market leader in Engineering and Environmental Consulting. As such, we target opportunities to help communities thrive through:

  • Sustainable youth development;
  • Education and skills development with emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics);
  • Conservation and environmental sustainability; and
  • Community development where we can put our skills to work to provide access to basic services for marginalised communities.

Community Initiatives

WSP strives to help marginalised communities in South Africa thrive through investment in ‘spade-in-the-ground’ projects aligned to  B-BBEE Codes for Built Environment Professionals. A ‘spade in the ground’ project is a structured SED project that yields a benefit specifically to communities with limited services.

Projects selected for investment must be requested by the community where it requires assistance with pro-vision of basic services, including both ‘soft infrastructure’ such as schools, clinics, youth centres etc. and hard infrastructure such as paving, power and water solutions etc.

Employee Volunteering

WSP believes in the importance of community involvement and charitable work to the overall wellbeing of our people, and engagement in our business.
