The implementation of the Organic Resources Recovery Centre Phase 2 (O·PARK2) is part of HKSAR government’s strategies to tackle food waste. O·PARK2 will adopt anaerobic digestion to recycle food waste into renewable energy such as biogas which could then be used to generate electricity. This will also reduce the need for disposal of organic waste at landfills.
O·PARK2 is located in the northern New Territories of Hong Kong, and with a capacity to process 300 tonnes of food waste per day.
WSP is serving as the engineering design consultant to the Design-Build-Operate Joint Venture Consortium for the O·PARK2. Our services include Civil, Structural, Geotechnical and Traffic engineering, Architectural and Landscape design, Building Services design as well as BIM Management. In addition, WSP will also review and enhance the process flow and assist the Consortium to design the Combined Heat and Power system to generate electricity and heat for use by the O·PARK2 as well as exporting surplus electricity to the power grid.
With energy efficiency and safety as a prerequisite, WSP will assist in achieving BEAM Plus Gold or above grade by adopting energy efficient features throughout the project as well as fire safety management.
