Offered by WSP, Business continuity management is a life cycle capability that analyses, designs, implements and validates for the unpredictable. It helps to address the unpredictable by designing contingency systems during unplanned events.
Luke Gordon, WSP’s Associate – Technology Systems, says, “Business continuity management is about safeguarding our clients’ businesses and properties from potential disasters such as cyberattacks and extreme weather events, therefore improving their resilience and minimising risk. It is applicable at many stages in the life cycle of a business or property, from initial concept, through to detailed design and into operations. In an increasingly dynamic environment, effective business continuity planning should be a key element of any project.”
Roneel Singh, WSP’s Technical Director – Technical Systems for ANZ, adds, “This capability, which we have been delivering for many years in the Middle East, is increasingly sought-after in Australia and New Zealand. With our expanded capability in this area we now offer expanded services and skills to our clients and benefit a project at the onset by entering the life cycle much earlier with our security masterplanning and strategy services.”
The importance of this capability has been demonstrated on the billion-dollar Queens Wharf project in Brisbane.
Through a series of stakeholder interviews used to identify the specific needs of Queens Wharf, Luke and his team conducted a high-level risk assessment and impact analysis exercise for the development.
Luke says, “Through this exercise, we helped the client identify critical business functions, ,such as the need for 24-hour access to power and water, and the management of logistics. Equipped with this knowledge, the client was better informed about the design decisions required to support continuity of operations; all in the name of increased resilience. By implementing a second electricity and data feed at alternative locations, WSP helped to successfully plan for the unforeseeable.”
Believing in the importance of this growing capability and the value it adds to our clients, Luke became the first member of the WSP Technology Systems team in Australia to become certified in Business Continuity Management.
