Starting as a graduate in our Integrated Transport Planning team in 2015, Ravi quickly fostered ambitions of accelerated development through our Graduate Program. His ambition – to reach a position where he is a trusted advisor on major projects.
He says, “I have always had the desire to interact with clients from both a technical and project aspect and be that main point of call. I’ve enjoyed a taste of it already and think I have the people skills and technical knowledge to thrive under the pressure of being the client’s go to person.”
What has made Ravi so determined this early in his career? He says, “The prospect of international opportunities is something that really drives me. This year I was lucky enough to be involved in GxTEP (Global Transport Emerging Professionals), our international exchange program between our ANZ, Nordics and Asian offices. For a month, I worked and lived in Singapore and Hong Kong, taking the opportunity to engage with local projects, clients and immerse myself in the culture. Despite the associated language barriers, the program widened my understanding of our role as consultants, and developed my experience and networks with my international counterparts.”
“Down the track, I’d love to join one of our international projects from it’s inception through to completion. A change in culture and landscape would represent a new way of thinking and present new challenges, I can already see this experience as a vital stepping stone for my develop.” Ravi adds.
Reflecting on his time with the business, Ravi believes it is the people that makes WSP a great place to work. As an organisation, we embrace our people and the business is a direct reflection of both our professional and social culture In Ravi’s words, we are committed, transparent and colourful, while our people are encouraged to be themselves and are not pigeon-holed.
He concludes, “I’ve really enjoyed the empowerment and autonomy WSP has given me in my roles. A flatter management structure means we work alongside our leaders, we are given the opportunity to pick our projects and are empowered to take our careers down a path we desire.”
These are examples of why Ravi wishes to explore our International Agility.
