Presenting at the Large-Scale Solar Industry Forum on 15 May 2018, Maria Vazquez, WSP’s Senior Renewable Energy Engineer, will examine uncertainty introduced by solar farms going merchant using simplified revenue estimation profiles. 

“There has been a shift in Australia’s renewable energy projects, such as large-scale solar photovoltaics, being financed by going fully merchant,” explains Ms Vazquez. “This increasing trend reflects the fast-evolving economics of solar initiatives.

“Merchant projects tend to develop revenue projections based on daily price and production profiles by quarter or by month. Each daily profile is typically comprised of half hourly intervals. This simplified model is subject to a level of uncertainty that is sometimes overlooked.  Understanding the error associated with this approach will enable a better understanding of the impacts on revenue for a project.”

To date, Ms. Vazquez has worked on projects of different scales, development stages and complexities throughout Europe, Africa, North America, India and Asia Pacific. She has extensive experience in the renewable energy sector and her technical skills range from preconstruction through to operational phase for both solar and wind projects.
