For the past two years, Andrew Leedham, Technical Executive in Integrated Transport Planning, has been at the helm of the Australian Institute of Traffic Planning and Management (AITPM). As its National President, he has played a pivotal role in helping the organisation maintain its relevance to members, sponsors and the broader transport industry, transitioning it from an incorporated body to a company limited by guarantee.
Speaking at the 13th Annual Associations Forum National Conference in July this year, Mr Leedham shared his experiences in driving change within the AITPM institute. He said, “An organisation must have clear objectives and prioritise its activities towards the achievement of these. This is particularly the case for those like AITPM that are run predominantly by volunteers. The challenge for any leader is to harness the strengths of each individual board member, bring them together as a cohesive group and provided a united approach to the members of the association.
“During my tenure with AITPM, I have focused on building a culture which encourages board members to challenge and be challenged in an inclusive environment.”
As Mr Leedham’s term as National President wraps up, the association welcomes a new Victorian State President, also from WSP – Scott Benjamin, Technical Executive for Intelligent Transport Systems, who has been leading the way on several automated vehicle and Intelligent Transport projects.
Mr Leedham added, “With shifting industry patterns and a rising emphasis on ITS, Scott will bring a valuable perspective to the association, particularly on the intersection between technology planning and road management.”
Mr Leedham continues his involvement with AITPM as member of the Board of Directors.
The Associations Forum National Conference is held annually with a focus on educating and connecting Australia’s associations, charities and not-for-profit sector. Each year the conference welcomes industry leaders to share their experiences on managing their respective organisations and the challenges they face.
