Last month, more than 100 of our dynamic, innovative and driven graduates from across Australia and Manila came together for our annual two-day workshop held in Sydney.
Brianna Cooper, Learning and Development Consultant, says, “To ensure the prosperity of the firm long into the future, it is essential that we invest in our graduates. Through the graduate workshop we are equipping our newest young professionals with the opportunities and knowhow to connect, engage, provide, develop and grow their careers and so we can continue to attract and retain the best people.”
Known as Ignite! the annual graduate workshop is designed to equip our young professionals with the foundations needed to leverage and develop their individual strengths, learn from technical experts and expand their professional networks.
In alignment with our new three-year strategy, the graduates explored WSP’s four key strategy pillars as well as our Guiding Principles.
Brianna adds, “It’s important that our young professionals draw as much knowledge – as early as they can – from those that are shaping the direction of the firm. This included presentations from our directors Guy Templeton, George McMillan, Greg Milford, Henry Okraglik, Murielle Paviet-Fanolliet and Adam Hing.
“Through these presentations and the networking event, it was great to see our graduates engaging with our firm’s leaders and asking as many questions as they could. Learning from our leaders is an integral part of the development process.”
Other highlights from the event included a renewed focus on wellbeing. Jean Clendinning, Head of Organisational Development, led the group in numerous short mindfulness activities throughout the two days, providing them with the skills required to embed these new techniques in their day-to-day work.
Another highlight of the workshop was an interactive session led by Admin Hing, Risk, Compliance & Ethics Officer, who challenged graduates to brainstorm possible ethical dilemmas which he then responded to.
Brianna concludes "The aim of Ignite! was to spark passion and purpose within every attendee, encouraging them to engage in their career journey and provide them with the tools required to succeed along the way.
“It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to meet so many innovative and future thinking young professionals, and I look forward to seeing them ignite their respective careers for many years to come.”
