Inspiring the Next Generation of Water Leaders: In Conversation with Louise Dudley
By increasing diversity of thought, culture, background, experiences, and personalities, we create a more competitive and dynamic industry and help to inspire to the next generation of leaders.
Lee Foster, WSP’s Technical Executive of Water Treatment, recently interviewed Louise Dudley, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Queensland Urban Utilities (QUU), who is challenging the status quo in her career and in the water industry.
Louise started her career working on water reform across South East Queensland. She played a key role in the creation of Queensland Urban Utilities during her time as Executive Manager, Water Retail, Brisbane City Council. This included a major contribution to the successful transition of five local authority water businesses into a single entity.
She says, “I’m proud of the work we do that supports our customers and communities – particularly our contribution to enhancing liveability and enriching quality of life. Being able to come to work each day and really connect with your purpose is what makes working at QUU really rewarding. People in the water industry are so committed to their work, they love what they do and you can’t help but feel energised and inspired by the people you work with.
“To achieve better diversity in our industry, we need to embrace people’s differences and learn how to value them. I truly believe that diversity lifts the performance of the whole.”
