Last night at the Australasian Rail Industry Awards in Sydney, Mark Xerri, Senior Transport Planner with WSP was recognised for his critical role in shaping end-user outcomes on rail projects, winning the RTSA Young Rail Professional Award for 2019.

A transport planner with roots in rail, Mr Xerri has spent nine years honing his craft in the industry, gaining a holistic understanding and knowledge of what drives rail. During this time, he has held strategic planning and design roles on Western Sydney Freight Line, Parramatta Light Rail and notably, Sydney to Newcastle Faster Rail – a project which has the potential to fundamentally change how the people of NSW live and work.
Sam McWilliam, WSP Rail Team Executive NSW, says “Mark has a strong future ahead of him leading the transport industry and shaping the future. He has actively sought experience across the spectrum of service planning, design, construction and management in transport. This has given him a universal perspective on the lifecycle of rail projects and how integrating disciplines can be used to deliver a better outcome for end users.

“He is committed to shaping the rail sector through continually learning from others and developing his skills in new fields, challenging himself to constantly improve, leading significant and successful projects, and giving back to others through mentoring and involvement in rail industry organisations. Along with winning the RTSA Young Professional Award, Mr Xerri was previously the winner of the PWI Young Achiever Award in 2015.
