We are pleased to announce the appointment of Sam Harris as Technical Executive – Maritime. Based in Melbourne, Sam will focus on developing and driving growth strategies in the sector.
Sam brings almost 20 years’ experience to the firm, working on more than 125 port/terminal projects across six continents. He joins us from Mott MacDonald where he was Maritime Practice Leader for the Australian, New Zealand and Asia region.
Prior to this, Sam held leading roles helping to manage and deliver high profile martime projects including the Newcastle’s GasDock , Port Botany’s expansion in Sydney, Port of Melbourne’s Rail Transformation and the fully automated Mubarak Al Kabeer Port terminal to name a few.
“With Australia relying on its ports and maritime industry for the import and export of goods and commodities, the success of our economy and the nation’s prosperity is influenced by its performance,” says Sam.
“Considering that over 30 per cent of our GDP is reliant on international shipping, and at least 10 per cent of the world’s trade passes through Australian ports[1], there are some excellent opportunities for WSP to support long-term-viability and sustainability of the industry.”
In welcoming Sam to WSP, Simon Blake, Maritime Lead says, “With more than 350 maritime engineers and specialists around the world, we lead the way in providing clients with future ready advice to solve complex challenges such as port freight connectivity, growth and commodity diversification, SMART operation and automation.
“The growth of our Australian maritime business is underpinned by a range of experienced professionals and new hires including Sam. His passion for excellent client service, strong leadership history and long-standing experience in the sector makes him well-placed to drive growth our business.”
