Transport for NSW engaged Pacific Complete, a joint venture between Laing O’Rourke and WSP, as delivery partner for this project.
The new road bypasses Woodburn, Broadwater and Wardell. It features three new interchanges at Woodburn, Broadwater ad Coogardie. The new section of road provides smoother and safer travel, offers more reliable journeys, and better flood immunity. Local communities, freight transport, emergency services and holiday-makers will now also have better alternative routes.
As James Hartley, WSP’s Project Manager says, “I have worked on different sections of the Pacific Highway upgrade for over 10 years and seeing this section open to traffic is a major milestone for the team.
“We remain focused on being ‘driven to save lives’ and are proud to see the upgrade providing smoother and safer journeys for road users and communities.”
Colm Magee, WSP’s Construction Design & Engineering Manager says, “I have driven this section of the Pacific Highway every day since I relocated to the area in 2016 to join the delivery team on-site. This opening brings safety improvements to the local community and road users. It will be a proud moment driving my family through this 34km stretch of the upgrade. I especially look forward to crossing the new bridge over the Richmond River.”
